The Library is where special education therapists can find activities, like worksheets and videos, to use with their students with special needs in the Virtual Therapy Room.

Access to the content library is a large selling point for the product, but had a lot of room for improvement.

We started a redesign of the Library to address its usability issues and improve a core part of the platform.

Summary of what I did for this project:

  • I talked to our clinical team to better understand the Library and how it's used.
  • I reviewed relevant user feedback from various internal sources.
  • I defined user end goals (alongside the expert clinical team) to give direction for the redesign efforts.
  • I measured the existing design against the user end goals to evaluate its effectiveness and expose areas of improvement.
  • I explored various designs in low-fidelity and created an interactive prototype of an improved version of the Library for testing.
  • I ran usability tests with special education therapists to validate the design and understand the highest impact items for development.
  • I created a high-fidelity prototype with components from Material Design, Google's design system that the company is adopting for newer projects.
  • I established a process for usability testing designs and documented the procedures for the rest of the team. Usability testing is now integrated the design process.
  • I defined a visually accessible Material Design theme to ensure a consistent visual style as the company adopts Material.
  • I compiled relevant customer feedback from various sources into a single document as a resource for the team.
